EU-UN: Comic and cartoon competition
Description
Global comic and cartoon competition "Generation equality: picture it!", to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the groundbreaking Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action about gender equality.
The competition is promoted by UN Women, together with the European Commission, Belgium, France, Mexico and in partnership with Cartooning for Peace to mark the 25th anniversary of the groundbreaking Beijing Declaration. To this end UN Women has launched the multigenerational campaign, “Generation Equality: Realizing women’s rights for an equal future”, and will be convening the Generation Equality Forum (co-chaired by France and Mexico). The kick-off meetings will be in Mexico City (March 2021) and in Paris (June 2021).
In this context the organizers of the Forum invite young people to picture to their own vision of what a gender equal generation looks like. The drawing must seek inspiration in the 12 Critical Areas of Concern of the Beijing Platform:
- Women and the Environment
- Women in Power and Decision-Making
- The Girl Child
- Women and the Economy
- Women and Poverty
- Violence against Women
- Human Rights of Women
- Education and Training of Women
- Institutional Mechanisms for the Advancement of Women
- Women and Health
- Women and the Media
- Women and Armed Conflict
The drawings of the finalists and semi-finalists will be exhibited (either virtually or in situ) during the Generation Equality Forum in Paris. Finalists will be selected by a jury composed of expert comic artists.
Eligibility
- You are between 18 and 28 years old.
- You believe in gender equality and realizing women’s rights for an equal future.
- You want to express your vision of a gender-equal generation in a drawing.
- Unleash the power of your creativity and PICTURE IT!
The prizes will be:
- First Prize: € 1.200
- Second Prize: € 750
- Third Prize: € 500
Deadline: 14 March 2021.
